The Impact of AI on Women’s Participation in Gig Economy in Rawalpindi and Islamabad
Abstract
Artificial Intelligence (AI) can play a vital part in revolutionizing the gig economy by improving employee effectiveness and output, as well as boosting their engagement with digital labor markets. This study aims to explore the consequence of access to the AI tools, internet access, barriers to using AI tools and previous digital experiences on women's digital skills and engagement in the gig economy. The second purpose of this research is to explore the moderating effect of educational level between digital skills and women's involvement in gig economy. 212 gig workers from Rawalpindi and Islamabad made up the study's sample, which was conducted using the survey method. An online survey using questionnaires based on a five-point Likert scale was used to gather the results. The study's findings demonstrate that women's digital capabilities are enhanced by the availability of AI tools, the internet and their previous digital experience, which in turn increases their engagement in the gig economy. The results also indicate a strong correlation between participation by women in the gig economy and digital skills. Furthermore, the association between digital skills and women's participation in the gig economy was significantly moderated by education level. The results of these findings have implications for policy makers and organizations to facilitate females' access to technology and digital abilities in order to encourage women to participate in the gig economy.
